The VOLANTE project started in November 2010 and will last 4 and a half years, until April 2015. The specific call addressed by VOLANTE is ENV.2010. Integrated resource management based on land and land-use management within the Environment (including climate change) Theme of the 7 Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development of the European Commission.

VOLANTE aims to develop a new European land management paradigm, providing an integrated conceptual and operational platform which allows policy makers to develop pro-active and context-sensitive solutions to the challenges for the future, rather than to react on largely autonomous external land systems developments. Objective of VOLANTE is to provide European policy and land management with a ROADMAP FOR FUTURE LAND RESOURCES MANAGEMENT IN EUROPE.

VOLANTE brings together a critical number of leading European scientific institutions in the area of assessment of land resource management and land use change. The 14 partners represent the entire geographical variety of Europe, under the Coordination of Alterra-LEI from the Netherlands.The VOLANTE consortium strongly benefits from existing cooperation in two international networks, the IGBP/IHDP Global Land Project and LANDSCAPE EUROPE International Network of Expertise on Landscapes, both active in the area of land resource management and land use change.
